About Stars

Mission Statement

Stars Gymnastics serves children by developing skills for life through gymnastics.  We are dedicated to training excellence in gymnastics while striving to maintain an encouraging atmosphere in a family environment.

We strive to develop skills for life!  Customer service is a high priority and we are proud to boast of our "family" atmosphere.

Our History

Stars Gymnastics has been locally owned and operated by Susie Milani and Michele Maccagnan since 1993.  Our 12,000 square foot facility is located in the northwest part of Colorado Springs near The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

We are a family friendly business that strives to provide great gymnastics instruction, impeccable customer service, and a variety of programs.  While we have gymnasts from preschool to internationally competitive athletes it is always our focus to live by our motto of “developing skills for life”.

Our experienced staff goes through continual training to ensure that athletes are taught the most up- to- date and safest techniques.  Because athlete safety is our number one priority,  all of our coaches have current background checks,  .

Here at Stars Gymnastics we have a strong philosophy to develop and nurture well rounded gymnasts to prepare them for success as athletes and adults throughout the rest of their lives.  One of the most rewarding things is watching athletes return as coaches or as parents with children in our program.

Michele was born in Kansas City, Missouri but has lived in Colorado Springs since she was four years old. She graduated from Doherty High School in 1989 and then from UCCS (receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.) She has been involved in competitive sports her entire life, although she was never a gymnast. She began working at Stars in 1990 simply working at the front desk and within a few months was coaching preschool classes as well.

In 1995, she became an owner of Stars Gymnastics and realized her dream of teaching and influencing the lives of young children. She absolutely loves her job and the people that she works with. She has been married since 2001 and has a  son that is an elite trampolinist.  She enjoys running, hiking, scrapbooking and traveling the world.

Owner
Susie was born and raised in the Chicago area and was involved in competitive gymnastics in the 70’s and 80’s. She retired from competitive gymnastics after high school and ventured west. She attended the University of Wyoming and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Sports Psychology.  She fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and moved to Colorado Springs in 1990.  She has been coaching for over 35 years and has been one of the owners of Stars since 1993.

She has coached several Level 5 state champions and has also coached 4 TOPS National Team Members. She has taught all levels from preschool to the competitive level but has found that teaching preschoolers touches her heart the most. She has a teenager named Lucas, 2 dogs named Rocky and Badger, and a black and white cat named Domino.  In her down time, Susie loves to hike,  garden,  travel with her best friend,  create meditation jewelry,  and practice yoga.
